Location: IROQUOIS FALLS, ON 

The Adult Learning Centre is a community-based, not for profit adult literacy organization serving Iroquois Falls, Cochrane, and surrounding area.  We are seeking a high-energy instructor to work with adult students to provide quality learning opportunities.   

As a literacy organization whose vision is Equity, Accessibility, and Community, we are looking for an individual who is creative, committed to capacity building and delivering teaching approaches that reflect our mission, values, and mandate, and will follow the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework.  

Hours of work:  Full-Time 35 hours/week - Monday to Friday    

Starting salary = $20 per hour 

Major responsibilities:  

• Prepare and administer initial, ongoing and exit assessments 

• Instruct subject areas of Communications, Mathematics and Digital Technology 

• Facilitate individualized and small group learning based on a learner centered approach 

• Design, prepare and deliver progressive and innovative learning activities; use resources and tools that reflect the experiences, social context and learning goals of students 

• Document student progress, attendance, input and track monthly statistics  

• Participate in staff meetings, and contribute to the development of pedagogy and innovative thinking 

• Facilitate timely assessments, goal setting and learning plans 

• Assist in recruitment of participants, including participation in community outreach  

• Assist in overall programming activities, fundraising, and recognition events 

Skills and experience preferred: 

• Demonstrated teaching and/or tutoring experience  

• Experience with online training 

• Excellent digital skills – proficiency in word processing, Excel, varied internet applications, experience with management systems  

• Strong lesson planning, facilitation, assessment and problem-solving skills 

• Patient and understanding  

• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills 

• Knowledge of Skills for Success and the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework 

• Valid driver’s license  

• Bilingualism an asset
