Position Title: Safe Bed Worker (SBW) Part Time and Casual / Relief
About Zack’s Crib: Zack’s Crib Cris Centre (ZC) is a safe beds facility with the Mission to “promote, coordinate and provide services that alleviate and prevent homelessness”. Zack’s Crib Crisis Centre opened to support the community in December 2023.
Location: 183 Broadwood Ave, New Liskeard
Position Summary: Safe Bed Support Workers work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide person-centered services utilizing a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach.
This position supports people experiencing homelessness who are utilizing the Safe Beds Program at ZC.
Key Responsibilities Accountabilities: • Conduct safety risk assessments and complete intakes into the Safe Beds Program (SBP).
- Provide information, referrals and options for client’s housing, legal, medical, financial, cultural, social and wellness needs.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate group programming, as required.
- Maintain safety and security throughout the SBP.
- Actively participate in regular staff meetings, training, supervision, ongoing professional development and remain current regarding best practices / supports for those experiencing homelessness.
- Cooking and meal preparation, cleaning / housekeeping duties, and maintain an organized and sanitary environment.
- Complete all documentation to professional standards and in a timely manner.
- Adhere to strict confidentiality.
- Maintain Health and Safety requirements.
- Maintain professional and ethical boundaries with clients and community partners.
Requirements:
- Must provide a current acceptable Vunerable Sector Police Check (VSC).
- Current Standard First Aid / CPR Certification or willingness to obtain at own cost.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field; including, but not limited to: Social Work / Social Service Worker, Nursing, Personal Support Worker, Social Justice & Community Development or equivalent work experience.
- Competency in oral and written communication skills paired with the ability to effectively work with a diverse team.
- Experience with administrative processes and tools including computer literacy and security systems.
- Accept and work a variety of shifts (mainly night shifts 10pm-8am subject to change), throughout the week, on weekends, and on holidays.
- Flexibility and ability to accept shifts periodically with short notice.
- Patience, creativity, compassion and resilience.
- Paid or unpaid experience supporting marginalized individuals.
- Ability to utilize effective conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to work alongside animals periodically.
- Related shelter experience is considered an asset.
- The ability to speak multiple languages will be considered an asset.
- CPI Certification, Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Informed Care Training is considered an asset.
Physical Demands: The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to lifting (up to 25kg), bending, twisting, reaching, sitting or standing for extended periods, pushing, pulling, and moving constantly throughout the shift.
Compensation / Work Perks:
- Casual / Relief SBW $21.75 / hour.
- Part Time SBW $23.00 / hour.
