Camp Wabikon is located on the southern tip of Temagami Island in beautiful Temagami Ontario. Our unique location gives us immediate access to some of the best canoe tripping wilderness Ontario has to offer right off the end of our docks.
Each summer campers from around the world travel to Temagami and Camp Wabikon to enjoy an amazing summer camp experience. Wabikon offers a complete in-camp program and incorporates the canoe trip experience as a cabin activity for a period of time depending on camper age. Wabikon campers are 6-16 years in age. Each cabin has approximately 8 campers with 2 counsellors who also go on canoe trip with their cabin. Cabin Counsellors are responsible for managing camper issues on trip (in collaboration with the Canoe Trip Leader) while the Trip Leader is responsible for all aspects of trip planning, safety, food, orienteering, etc.
We are looking for competent, patient and highly motivated leaders, who have the skills and experience to work with our campers. Our Canoe Trip Leaders have excellent judgment, and are compassionate and committed to offering an excellent canoe trip experience and representing the values of Camp Wabikon while on trip.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead wilderness canoe trips in the Temagami area for groups of 8-10ppl.
- Plan trip route, meals, equipment needs etc. under the supervision of the Tripping Director
- Manage all aspects of the canoe trip including possible emergencies and evacuations
- Contribute expertise to staff training
- Participate in programming when required while in-camp
- Must be comfortable in a collaborative staff working and living structure
Minimum Qualifications
- 18 Years of age minimum
- Experience working with youth and canoe tripping
- Bronze Cross (NLS preferred)
- Basic Rescuer CPR (Level C)
- Advanced Wilderness First Aid and ORCKA Canoe Tripping Levels are not required but are an asset and bonuses are offered for such addition qualifications.
