Job Details:

Full Time - Temporary 
Pay: $17.60/Hours
Schedule: 35 hours/week (days, evenings, weekends as needed)
(total term 217.5 hours for 6 weeks/30 days)

The Museum of Northern History celebrates the spirit of Kirkland Lake through collection, conservation, research, education and exhibition. The Museum assumes many roles within the community largely encompassed by the collection, interpretation and display of artifacts important to Kirkland Lake's history. Our collection comprises more than 25,000 artifacts relating to Kirkland Lake and the surrounding area.

The Museum caters to the public as a main research location, events and activities venue and as a rental facility. The Museum is also an arts and culture hub of the Community through the exhibition of approximately 10 displays in our Gallery each year. Our Museum continuously strives to expand our Cultural and Social histories onsite through community partnerships, artifact preservation, exhibit creation and programming.

Position Details:

We are seeking to fill a summer position for a full-time temporary Community Engagement Coordinator.

The Community Engagement Coordinator will assist staff with a range or new and ongoing projects including the development of online and onsite content, planning and implementation of programming, all while expanding the Museum's community presence. 

Some of the responsibilities/job objectives of this position include:
- Development of virtual vignettes on Kirkland Lake History, and community engagement through various social media platforms (Instagram, Tik Tok) helping to reach new, younger and broader audiences.   

- Digitization and photography of parts of the Museum's Collection expanding public access to the Museum's Collection

- Assist with the creation and development of onsite and offsite community programs, and educational programs for youth.

This position will require assistance with exhibition installations, special event coordination, moving of artifacts, and other duties as required. It may also require the use of the Point-of-Sale System for sales, admissions and membership processing.

The student will be encouraged to promote the Museum in the area of events, activities, existing and upcoming exhibitions.

Requirements
- The applicant must be attending school in the fall of 2026
- As per YCW criteria, the student must be a minimum of 15 years old. .
- Willing to commit the duration of the employment period.
Must complete a Criminal Reference Check
- Student must be a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident, or have Refugee Status in Canada.
- They must also be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid Social Insurance Number)
