Job Summary

The Timmins Learning Centre is seeking a dynamic and strategic individual to lead, plan, deliver, and oversee education programs that meet the needs of each individual learner participating in our Adult Literacy and Basic Skills Program and Children's Services Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director has overall strategic and operational responsibility for implementing the vision of the Timmins Learning Centre, ensuring delivery of high-quality programming and services in a manner consistent with the mission, mandate, and goals of the organization.

The Executive Director is responsible for all financial, program, fundraising, and administrative considerations of the organization. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Providing leadership that fosters a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for staff, volunteers, and learners
• Overseeing the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization, including staff and volunteer supervision
• Supporting instructors and tutors with program guidance to ensure alignment with the organization’s goals and quality standards, and providing one-to-one tutoring as needed
• Ensuring that personnel, volunteer, and learner files are securely stored and that privacy/confidentiality is maintained
• Preparing and managing operational budgets, overseeing organization finances, and ensuring sound financial policies and procedures are in place and followed
• Researching funding sources and writing funding proposals to increase organization revenue and ability to fulfill the mission and goals of the organization
• Overseeing the development of fundraising plans and participating in fundraising activities as appropriate
• Marketing and advertising programs and services within the community
• Networking and establishing collaborative working relationships with community partners to help achieve the goals of the organization
• Acting as a spokesperson for the organization and representing the organization at community events to enhance the organization’s community profile
• Determining staffing/volunteer requirements for organizational management and program delivery, and recruiting staff and volunteers as needed
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and funder requirements
• Preparing for and attending monthly board meetings, and providing necessary reports and support to the board to make informed decisions

Skills and Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Education, Community Development, Social Sciences, Administration or a related field OR equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience
• Minimum 3-5 years experience managing or supervising staff and/or volunteers
• Exceptional oral/verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate ideas and plans into successful funding proposals
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a board of directors and build effective relationships with community partners and funders
• Strong knowledge of financial management including preparing and managing budgets; experience using QuickBooks is an asset
• Effective time management and organization skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and social media
• Previous tutoring or teaching experience is an asset
• Fluency in both official languages (English and French) is an asset
• A clear Vulnerable Sector Check will be required upon hire

Compensation and Work Environment

The salary range for this position is $48,000 to $56,000 annually. Benefits include two weeks of paid vacation, eight days of paid personal days, paid time off from December 24 to January 1, access to a health benefit program, RRSP contributions, and professional development opportunities.

The Executive Director is generally expected to work a standard workweek (approximately 35 hours per week), but will occasionally work evenings and/or weekends to accommodate activities such as Board of Director meetings, supporting staff, or representing the organization at public events.
