Purpose

The Long Term Planning Lead/Superintendent has site based scope supporting all Discovery Porcupine Assets reporting to the Technical Services Manager. The role will cover work tasks related to mining studies, reserves and resource estimation, life of mine planning, business planning activities and implementing the results of continuous improvement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Long Term Planning function at Discovery Porcupine
  • Manage and ensure all employees and contractors in Long Term Planning are working in compliance with all safety guidelines and procedures
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with Company policies and procedures, federal and provincial regulations as well as local regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in all safety programs and initiatives.
  • Strong collaboration and communication of plans with various stakeholders.
  • Coordinate work planning with Mine Ops and other planning engineers to ensure objectives are being met in the long-range.
  • Update LOM plan on annual basis.
  • Support and contribute to Business Planning exercise each year
  • Develop long-term mine development and sequencing strategies.
  • Develop mine budgets.
  • Plan, budget, communicate, and coordinate to meet goals in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for the generation of timely and accurate Long Term Planning work packages for the site: Reserves and Resource estimation, planning and annual MRMR reporting
    • Strategic mine plans and options scenarios supporting Business Plan
    • Business Plan Physicals and associated documentation for the +2 year to Life of Asset plan, in collaboration with the site mine planning teams and Technical Services Manager
    • Long term supporting facilities (waste dumps, UG facilities etc.) design and scheduling
    • Life of Asset infrastructure planning (tails, backfill, ventilation, etc.);
    • Support for reclamation and closure planning.
  • Complete reconciliation of Long Term Plans to Short Term Plans and to Actuals.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities to enhance mining plan.
  • Maintain strong synchronization between long, mid, and short-range designs.
  • Responsible for but not limited to all tasks/duties assigned or required.


Training and Education
Knowledge

  • 5 to 10 years of mining experience.
  • Mine Engineering or similar degree.
  • Knowledge of drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining with proven record of successful implementation.
  • Knowledge of underground mining best practices with proven record of successful implementation
  • Prior experience in a gold mining operation strongly preferred.

Key Competencies / Skills

  • Experience in a range of mine planning horizons including long term mine planning, production support, mine operations and design in large and diversified mine sites, with preference for experience in conventional hard rock Gold operations
  • Experience in operations with complex multi mine, multi process situations preferable and a knowledge of mine methods, mine design, production scheduling (strategic and tactical), equipment selection, reserve estimation and economic evaluations
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong communications network with planning peers, Technical Services Managers, Project/Study Directors, Mine Managers, and JV partner representatives
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence and a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of exploration methods and resource estimation
  • Strong problem solving and 3D visualization skills
  • Experience with MineStar or similar fleet management system.
  • Experience with SAP or similar purchasing program.
  • Expert level competence with Deswik Mine planning software suite.
  • Prior exposure to mine planning software (Vulcan, MineSight, Terrain, AcQuire) is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills required.
  • Quick learner with proactive mindset.
  • Proven ability to identify problems and devise solutions.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, management and problem-solving skills are required.

Working Conditions

  • The position is nominally located at Porcupine Gold Mines in Timmins, ON
  • Will be required to access mining and processing areas, rough terrain, or exploration sites
  • Frequent working at a computer/monitor or keyboard
  • Must be sensitive to cultural differences at the operations within the Company
