Northern College is seeking Program Assistants in our Coastal Academic Upgrading department. The successful candidate will be well organized, have great customer service skills and be comfortable hosting and attending local events.

Reporting to the Manager, Employment Services and Academic Upgrading, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing reception services for the Access Centre. In addition, they will provide administrative support for the Access Centre, including distribution of departmental marketing material, manage all digital files, register Academic Upgrading students and maintain accurate records for reporting activity and statistics to the funders and to the Manager.

What you will be doing:

  • This position will require the successful candidate to work alone within the Access Centre Building;
  • Support students in their training, education and employment journey;
  • Support students in registering and applying for education, training or employment opportunities;
  • Answer incoming inquiries by phone, text, social media, email, and in person and direct to appropriate staff as needed;
  • Meet with clients applying for services such as Educational, Training or Employment Services, and begin the intake folder process and ensure the client is eligible for the service. Plans to meet with key staff at other sites;
  • Conduct in-person or virtual initial registration interviews and collect all necessary documentation from clients;
  • Assist with resumes and cover letters, or other documents as needed for school or employment; and
  • Assist with developing Educational or Employment pathway plans for all registered client.

What you will need to be considered:

  • 2-year diploma in Office Administration – Executive, Business Administration, or equivalent//related field; and
  • Minimum one (1) year of proven experience in an administrative environment and customer facing roles.

Please note this position qualifies under Northern College’s protocol for hiring in remote regions. Candidates with relevant experience and who do not meet the education requirements may be given consideration based on relevant equivalent qualifications.
