Job Description
Caron Equipment Inc. is currently in search of a proficient and seasoned Heavy Civil/Mining Project Director to lead and oversee our project team. The incumbent will be tasked with ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of projects while maintaining client satisfaction. This position is based at Cote Mine near Gogama, ON, operating on a 4 days in/3 days out rotation.
Responsibilities:
Client Relations
- Act as the primary liaison with mining clients and site representatives, ensuring expectations are met across all phases of the project.
Budget/Cost Tracking Overview
- Oversee all aspects of cost tracking, including procurement, subcontractor spending, and change order impacts specific to mining operations.
Analysis of Revenues and Expenses
- Monitor project-specific financial performance; analyze production-related expenses (fuel, equipment uses, blasting, haulage, etc.) against revenue projections.
Process Review and Implementation
- Evaluate and implement project-specific mining processes, including pit development, tailings management, and ore handling protocols to drive efficiency.
Schedule Overview
- Manage detailed project timelines including pit progression schedules, mobilization of equipment, and critical path for mining milestones.
Cost Control Overview
- Lead cost containment strategies with a focus on equipment utilization, manpower productivity, consumables, and maintenance in a high-cost mining environment.
Attend Sponsorship Meeting
- Represent the project team in senior-level stakeholder and joint venture meetings related to mine production, safety, and compliance targets.
Org Chart Management
- Maintain a dynamic organizational structure to adapt to project phases, shift rotations, and changes in scope or resource allocation.
Site / Operations Audit
- Conduct regular audits focusing on MSHA compliance, environmental controls, drilling and blasting activities, and operational performance.
Staff Schedule Overview
- Direct shift scheduling for both hourly and salaried crews, ensuring coverage aligns with 24/7 operations and seasonal production needs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, demonstrating a successful track record of project delivery.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proficiency in project management methodologies including planning, scheduling, budgeting, team management, safety compliance, quality control, and risk management.
- Experience managing projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Ability to effectively lead project teams through all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Capability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, managing multiple projects concurrently.
