Tenant Relations/Maintenance Supervisor

Overview:
Under the direction of the Infrastructure & Housing Manager, the Tenant Relations Officer oversees tenant relations and supervises construction and maintenance activities. This role ensures tenant satisfaction, rental compliance, and property upkeep while leading the CLFN construction crew to complete projects safely, efficiently, on time, and to high standards. The ideal candidate combines strong interpersonal skills with technical expertise in property management and construction.
Preferred qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in property maintenance or tenant relations, with a strong focus on carpentry and general maintenance.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role, managing a team or contractors.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, general maintenance, and carpentry techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with tenants and team members.
- Ability to resolve issues efficiently and professionally while maintaining tenant satisfaction.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability perform physical tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working with tools.
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for property inspections and errands.
- Knowledge of Ontario's landlord-tenant laws and property management practices is an asset.
- Certification in carpentry, construction, or related fields is preferred.
- Criminal Record to be submitted. Must undergo and pass a drug test. Valid Driver"s License would be an asset.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for tenants regarding inquiries, complaints, or maintenance requests.
- Ensure lease compliance and act as a liaison between tenants and property management regarding rules, regulations, and policies.
- Supervise a small team of maintenance workers, ensuring work is completed to high standards and within required timelines.
- Coordinate with Infrastructure & Housing Manager for specialized work, such as electrical, plumbing, or HVAC repairs.
- Site visits for updates as directed by Manager.
- Maintain accurate records of tenant requests, maintenance schedules, and work orders.
- Perform hands-on carpentry work, including the repair and installation of doors, windows, trim, cabinets, and other wood-based structures.
- Carry out general property maintenance tasks such as drywall patching, painting, and other light repairs.
- Perform regular inspections of building systems (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC) and report any issues or deficiencies.
- Manage preventative maintenance schedules to ensure that the property remains in top condition.
- Respond to emergency maintenance issues, including after-hours and weekend work as required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Work may be performed in a variety of weather conditions and in different residential building types.
