The Ministry of Natural Resources

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) sustainably manages Ontario's fish and wildlife resources. We lead the management of Ontario's Crown lands, water, oil, gas, salt and aggregates resources, including making Crown land available for renewable energy projects. We ensure the sustainable management of Ontario's Crown forests, and protect people, property and communities from forest fires, floods and droughts. We also develop and apply geographic information to help manage the province's natural resources.

About the job

• You will support the Hearst-Cochrane-Kapuskasing district in project management, capital planning, priority roads assessments, dam monitoring, aggregate compliance, and waste disposal site inspections. Supporting the fish and wildlife programs and assisting with lands inspections will be a secondary priority.
• You will enhance your natural resource management related knowledge by working with colleagues/management, as well as a wide variety of clients including the public, industry representatives and Indigenous peoples.
• You will build innovative problem-solving skills to support the delivery of the Ministry's compliance activities.

What you bring to the team

Eligibility:

• valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's Licence to travel to rural or remote sites
• proof of eligibility to work in Canada
• graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma between May 2021 and June 2025
• candidates are only eligible to participate in one MNR 12-month placement and must not have participated in the MNR internship program in the past
• not a permanent employee in the Ontario Public Service

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• general understanding of natural resource management, including relevant legislation, associated with Crown infrastructure land use
• analytical and problem solving skills to review, analyze and evaluate data and information
• good verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation skills
• good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment to interact with staff, members of industry, stakeholder groups, resource users and the general public
• knowledge of computer software packages including MS-Excel, MS Word, MS Access, ARC/Info, to prepare correspondence and reports
• knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the OH&S Act that apply to the workplace and the work being performed
