Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator Salary
Range: $22,050-$34,650

The Indigenous Palliative Care Coordinator will design, implement, and oversee a palliative care volunteer program, which integrates cultural and spiritual support for Misiway clients and their families. In collaboration with the Misiway team, the Palliative Care Planner & Coordinator, and other stakeholders, this role will support the sacredness of the end-of-life experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a culturally appropriate palliative care volunteer program.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer members in meaningful ways.
- Provide direct support to Indigenous clients and families, ensuring care plans respect cultural traditions, spiritual needs, and personal preferences.
- Act as a liaison between clients, healthcare providers, and Indigenous organizations to coordinate seamless care delivery.
- Collaborate with Elders and knowledge keepers to integrate traditional practices into palliative care.
- Offer cultural competency training to staff on Indigenous approaches to health, wellness, and end-of-life care.
- Organize community outreach initiatives to raise awareness about palliative care services.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client care and program activities, ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in health sciences, nursing, social work, or a related field.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of their health, social, and cultural needs.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care, cultural safety, and reconciliation principles.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills.
- Knowledge of palliative care principles and practices is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for community visits.
- Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset but not required.
